The science of looking alike

Couples who stay together tend to look alike.

Studies in Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin (1987, 2006, 2020) find that long-term partners converge on facial similarity above chance, that perceived similarity predicts attraction at first sight, and that couples who started looking alike — really looking alike — were rated happier 25 years later. We took those papers seriously.

extracted per face by Claude Vision — interocular distance, jaw angle, midface ratio, philtrum length, and 28 others.

weighted independently. Eyes carry 22% of the score; jaw carries 18%. Tuned against 14 months of rating data.

cosine threshold below which we will not introduce two people. Roughly the 88th percentile of all candidate pairs.

20minute date

long enough to feel a person, short enough that nobody loses an evening. Hard timer. The room closes.

Your photo is stored securely and never shared.

Anonymous fingerprint.
Only an anonymous numerical fingerprint is used for matching — not your photo itself.
BIPA compliant.
Explicit biometric consent before any analysis. Disclosure on step 4 of onboarding.
Never sold or shared.
No data brokers. No model training. No third-party advertising.
Yours to delete.
Hard delete on request. We remove your photo and fingerprint the day you delete your account.
